• British Craft Trade Fair

Over the weekend of the 6th April 2013 more than 400 craft makers exhibited their wares at the exhibition centre on the Yorkshire Show ground. The aim, although it was not always obvious, was to gain orders from Trade buyers. Stands were from 2x1m upwards. I had premade a stand which was illuminated with LED's and held together with wing nuts and Velcro. It was loaded into 'Van Rouge', our motor home and off we went.

Set up on the Saturday took a few hours of feverish activity and buyers arrived Sun, Mon and Tues. Most exhibitors seemed to take stands every year and to my knowledge there was one who had been there for the best part of 20yrs. Over the three days we managed to gain a number of good orders with another the week after.

We have booked for next year and hope to build on the initial success with a slightly bigger stand .... On a corner!

It felt a bit like joining a club but we were very much 'newbies'. There felt to be a degree of class division between different makers and it seemed to depend on what you were doing, how you were doing it, what your background was and how some people felt about the level of design there was in your work.

Role on next year now we know what to expect....
